What is the process for getting braces?
- First appointment (evaluation) – The dentist thoroughly examines the teeth, takes X-rays and photos, and identifies what needs to be corrected. Based on that, a personalized treatment plan is created.
- Preparation – Before placing the braces, a deep cleaning is done to ensure everything is thoroughly clean. Then, the surface of the teeth is prepared so the brackets adhere properly.
- Placement of the Braces – The brackets are glued one by one to each tooth with a special adhesive, and then a wire is placed that connects all the brackets. This wire is what guides the movement of the teeth.
- Check-up Appointments – Every so often (usually once a month), you visit the orthodontist to have the wires adjusted, check the progress, and make any necessary changes.
- Removal and Retention – Once the teeth are in place, the braces are removed. However, to prevent the teeth from shifting again, a retainer (either fixed or removable) is placed to help keep everything in place.
